The Enlightened Leader

In this program, leaders will learn and build on skills that will enhance their leadership capability.  This is a hands on series of half day modules, each module addressing one topic that is of importance to successful managing.  In these progressive sessions, participants will learn new skills, then try them out both in class and at work, and discuss successes and challenges in subsequent sessions. An underlying theme of coaching for performance will support each topic as participants learn, refine and create increased excellence in managing their teams!

Module 1: Being a Leader/Performance Management

Module 2: Leveraging Team Member Style and Strength

  • Identify and map out the style of each person on your team
  • Understand what is important to each person on your team
  • Identify key strengths of each member
  • Begin building a strategy for working better with each team member

Module 3:  Teambuilding

  • Assess your teams strengths and areas for development
  • Identify 4 stages of group development
  • Helping your team achieve strategic, team and individual goals
  • Define what stage your team/s are in
  • Delegating for maximum performance and impact
  • 3 key rules of leadership

Module 4: Communication Skills

  • Techniques to Deliver Positive feedback
  • Explore how to communicate corrective and developmental feedback
  • Approaches to solicit feedback for improved leadership and coaching
  • Listening skills
  • Asking questions
  • Non-verbal communication

Module 5: Motivation

  • Learn current theories of motivation
  • Discuss what motivates and de-motivates each style of team member and how to increase their motivation
  • Understanding Perspective

Module 6:  Coaching

  • Identify the steps in results oriented coaching
  • Using DiSC as a base, discuss how to best coach your team members for positive performance and growth
  • Learn the top 10 skills of effective coaches
  • Establish performance expectations for your team

Module 7: The Coaching Meeting

  • Discuss how to create trust and confidence with your team
  • Learn to structure a coaching meeting
  • Explore how to delegate responsibility
  • Identify how to create a sense of ownership on the team
  • Developing an action plan

Module 8: Managing Team Conflict

  • Working with team members to decrease conflict within your team and with other departments
  • Focus is on multi-person conflict
  • Note: this module is independent of Conflict Resolution program offered to entire PDC

Module 9: The Performance Appraisal

  • Learn key steps to creating appraisal meetings that are positive, progressive and future focused
  • Identify strategies for empowering your team members
  • Learn how to take the stress out of Performance Appraisals

Module 10: Making the Right Hire

  • Strategically asking questions that will roadmap future performance
  • Identifying key strengths to best place star candidates
  • Maximizing your time in the interviewing process
  • Using metrix to speed up the process

Module 11: Managing Performance Problems

  • Identify key strategies to provide feedback to team members in a variety of situations
  • Practice giving and receiving feedback to improve performance
  • Learn key steps in identifying and managing performance problems, minimizing impact to the team
  • Investigate, assess and take action on the root of the problem
  • Learn 2 different models to handle Performance Problems

Module 12: Final Cases

  • Bring all the learning together through the use of related cases
  • Practice skills in real situations
  • Create an action plan for continued learning
